Mid Year Freak Out Tag 2024

Last year, I really struggled with reading. This year, I am fully back into it. For the first four months, I only read books I currently owned and I allowed myself the freedom to read what I was feeling. I can say I am actively enjoying the process of reading again which feels incredible. I am ahead in my reading goal of 25 books and decided to let myself reread a series which isn’t something I get to do very often because I feel guilty for not reading new books.

All For The Game series by Nora Sakavic

I am rereading the All for the Game series by Nora Sakavic and will be annotating it. I even got a special kit with colors that match the covers of the series! (I have the special covers editions designed by @||starcaster|| which you can get in her store. She’s also working on a matching one for the fourth book which I am so excited about!)

After I finish my reread, I am planning to go back to my physical TBR, not buying any new books except new releases (hopefully, also not including manga). Though my birthday is next month so I will probably get some books for that.

Anyway, here are my thoughts on some of the books I’ve read so far. The full list is at the bottom and if you want to read my full reviews, check out my StoryGraph: https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/sierrajwrites

Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2024

The Sunshine Court by Nora Sakavic

This was really hard but I’ll have to go with The Sunshine Court by Nora Sakavic. I did not know one of my favorite series of all time was getting continued until this book came out and then, I could not rest until I had it in my hands. This book made me the happiest I have been and broke my heart repeatedly over and over and over again. I can’t wait for the next one and I can’t wait to reread the ones before knowing where they lead.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2024

the Omega Objection by GL Carriger

I actually haven’t read a lot of sequels so far this year. Probably The Omega Objection by G.L. Carriger because I DEVOURED this series.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want to

A Bone in his Teeth by Kellen Graves

A Bone in his Teeth by Kellen Graves. I ordered a special signed copy directly from the author that won’t be coming until July, but I am excited to read it.

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

Hunt me! (I crave the chase) by Fae Quin. Also I’m Not You’re Pet! by Fae Quin. Going from reading so many of her books to none so far this year makes me sad and I can’t wait to get back into her comforting words.

Biggest Disappointment

The Magic Between by Stephanie Hoyt

The Magic Between by Stephanie Hoyt. It was just very oddly written that took away from the story and just straight up skipped scenes I wanted to see happen. I still enjoyed reading it, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Biggest Surprise

San Andreas Shifters series by GL Carriger

San Andreas Shifters series by G.L. Carriger. A birthday gift from my mother-in-law as it is her favorite gay book series. It took me right back to my gay werewolf Wattpad era in the best way possible. I adored everything about these books, I just wish there were more.

Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You)

Eryn Hawk

Eryn Hawk. I discovered them through their shared alien universe with Fae Quin, was so obsessed with You’re Not My King! that I went and bought Cair, the first in their Veiled City series which was also really good.

Newest Fictional Crush

You're not my King by Eryn Hawk

Vo’ak from You’re Not My King. Who wouldn’t want a giant, possessive fated mate who just wants to take care of you?

Newest Favorite Character

The Sumage Solution by GL Carriger

Max from the San Andreas Shifters series. Though his book was my favorite, I almost loved him being a sassy, overpowered background character even more.

Book That Made You Cry

The Sunshine Court by Nora Sakavic and Dark Heir by CS Pacat

I haven’t actually cried reading a book in a looooong time, but two got very close this year; The Sunshine Court by Nora Sakavic and Dark Heir by C.S. Pacat.

Book That Made You Happy

Of Knights and Books and Falling in Love by Rita A Rubin

Of Knights and Books and Falling in Love by Rita A. Rubin. This book was perfect, a warm mug of hot chocolate by the fire while it rained outside. I aspire to write cozy fantasies this beautiful and sweet.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought (or Received) So Far This Year

Of Knights and Books and Falling in Love by Rita A Rubin

Again, Of Knights and Books and Falling in Love by Rita A. Rubin. I love the artist, ThistleArts. He is actually currently working on the cover for my own pirate fantasy, coming September 28, 2024.

What Books Do You Need to Read Before the End of the Year

Besides my whole physical TBR?

Probably Herald of the Witch’s Mark by Kellen Graves so I can be fully caught up on the series.
